Ensuring Individuals With HIV and AIDS Have Access to Care
Established in honor of Ryan White, a teenager who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1984 and became a national advocate for HIV awareness and compassion, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program was created to ensure that individuals living with HIV or AIDS have access to high-quality care. The program focuses on supporting people who are uninsured or underinsured by helping them obtain medical treatment, life-saving medications, education, and supportive services that promote prevention, effective disease management, improved health outcomes, and increased longevity.
Offering Medical, Supportive Services, and Referrals for Access to Community Resources
The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program provides HIV medical care and treatment, pharmaceutical and medication assistance, early intervention services, home health care, hospice care, and case management. The program also offers community-based health services, mental health counseling, dental care, inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment, rehabilitation services, and outpatient or ambulatory health services.
In addition to clinical care, the program recognizes the importance of social and economic stability in maintaining health. As a result, it offers supportive services, such as childcare assistance, food and nutritional support, emergency financial assistance, housing support, legal services, transportation to medical appointments, respite care, and referrals to additional community resources.
National Hotlines and Confidential Support When it Matters Most
Through the program’s website, individuals can locate a Ryan White HIV/AIDS provider in their area to receive care and assistance. The website also provides access to national hotlines for confidential support and includes information on how to apply for services through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.
