Creating a Safe and Supportive Community
Founded in 1990 as the Safety Shelter of St. Johns County and renamed the Betty Griffin House in 1992, the Betty Griffin Center offers 54 beds and is supported by a dedicated team of 76 staff members. It advocates for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes and tirelessly works to create a safer and more supportive community for those affected by traumatic experiences.
Offering Access to Crisis Intervention
The center impacts over a thousand individuals annually through various community events and programs, which include sexual assault recovery services, a rape crisis unit, counseling, court advocacy, legal assistance, transitional housing, and education.
The Betty Griffin Center also offers a 24-hour helpline, which provides immediate access to crisis intervention and support. Trained advocates on the helpline offer compassionate listening, emotional support, and information about available services.
Two Thrift Stores United by a Common Mission
In addition to receiving support from companies like Mastercraft Builder Group, Pearmid Beachfront Properties, KeHE Cares, Heidi and Bubba Jimmerson, Foundation Community Impact, and others, the Betty Griffin Center benefits from proceeds raised at its two thrift stores: Betty Griffin Anastasia Island Thrift Shoppe (located at 1961 A1A South, St. Augustine, open Monday - Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Betty Griffin Julington Square Thrift Shoppe (located at 445 SR 13, Fruit Cove, FL 32259, open Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
Visitors can support the Betty Griffin Center’s mission and positively impact the community by shopping for appliances, art, clothing, furniture, and more.
