Established In Response to a Growing Need
Founded in 1998 by The National Alliance on Mental Illness, Rosalie James Circle of the International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons, St. Johns County Mental Health Department and Trinity Chapel, St. John's Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition of St. Johns (ESHC) provides support to families and children facing challenges in the community. This coalition was established in response to the growing need for comprehensive services aimed at addressing homelessness and mental health issues in the area.
Offering Families Access to Essential Resources
Situated on a 5-acre campus with 23 homes (15 for permanent housing, 1 for Veterans, 3 for behavioral health care, and 4 for supportive services, ESHC offers families access to a learning center, food pantry, and storage facility. Thanks to generous donations from community members and local organizations, families receive furniture, clothing, toys, and household items.
Dedicated volunteers lend their time and skills to support the community's upkeep, assisting with beautification, maintenance, and housekeeping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents.
Partnering with Community Organizations
Children can live on the ESHC campus and participate in afterschool programs that support academic success and digital literacy. Basketball, badminton, gardening, and piano lessons allow children to explore their natural talents in sports, recreation, and the arts. These opportunities encourage self-expression, teamwork, and personal development.
ESHC collaborates with local organizations, such as St. Augustine Lighthouse, the Salvation Army, Epic Behavioral Healthcare, and Flagler College, to offer engaging summer camps and special programs. Through these partnerships, children can broaden their horizons and make lasting memories in a supportive community.
Through partnerships with First Coast Technical College, St. Johns River State College, and other institutions, parents are encouraged to participate in job training and educational programs to help those without a high school diploma gain the credentials to pursue college or vocational training.
