Offering a Safe and Structured Environment

Founded in the 1970s in Silver Springs, Maryland, Oxford Houses grew into a global network supporting individuals on their journey to sobriety. With locations across the United States and internationally, Oxford Houses provide a secure, structured environment where individuals recovering from addiction can find stability and support.

Strengthening the Bonds Essential for Lasting Recovery

Oxford Houses create a supportive community for individuals and their families. Through family-inclusive events and programs, loved ones can reconnect with residents in a safe, understanding setting, strengthening the bonds essential for lasting recovery. The houses also serve as a valuable resource for medical professionals, therapists, and social workers.

Fostering Accountability, Cooperation, and a Sense of Belonging

At Oxford Houses, residents actively maintain the household, from shared chores to group decision-making. Through daily group meetings, interactive activities, and shared responsibilities, residents forge strong connections with one another, fostering accountability, cooperation, and a sense of belonging. This close-knit household structure helps individuals build life skills, develop resilience, and prepare for independent living.

Creating a Manageable Group Size to Encourage Meaningful Interpersonal Connections

Potential residents are welcomed through a personal, in-person interview process held each evening at 7:00 p.m. This daily interview ensures that new members are fully committed to a sober lifestyle and willing to embrace the shared values of the Oxford House community. Each house can accommodate up to nine residents, creating a manageable group size for meaningful interpersonal connections and individualized support.
