Designed to Help Individuals Overcome Substance Abuse

Founded in the 1970s in Silver Springs, Maryland, Oxford Houses have expanded into a robust network of recovery homes, offering individuals across the United States and internationally a safe and supportive space to recover from addiction. These homes help individuals overcome substance abuse in a structured yet welcoming environment, empowering them to rebuild their lives with dignity, accountability, and independence. The growth of Oxford Houses over the decades highlights the effectiveness of their recovery model, which combines the benefits of peer support, shared responsibilities, and a focus on community living.

The houses are built on the belief that long-term sobriety is best achieved through self-governance, mutual support, and community integration. Each house is independently operated, with residents responsible for house rules, finances, and day-to-day operations.

Restoring Trust and Improving Communication Between Residents and Their Families

Addiction affects not only the individual but also their loved ones, and Oxford Houses recognizes that healing extends beyond the individual. The homes offer a supportive space where families can reconnect with residents in a healthy, positive environment.

It allows family members to witness their loved ones' transformation in real-time. For residents, it provides the chance to mend relationships that may have been damaged by addiction.

Guaranteeing Residents Receive Continuous Care and Support

In addition, Oxford Houses serve as a valuable resource for medical professionals, addiction counselors, and therapists, who refer individuals to these homes as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. This partnership ensures that residents receive the ongoing care and support necessary to successfully transition from treatment programs to independent living.

Through group support meetings, shared activities, and collective responsibilities, residents understand the power of community in overcoming challenges. The peer-driven environment encourages individuals to help each other by offering emotional support, providing practical assistance, or simply listening to one another's experiences.

Encouraging Deep Connections Through Social Engagement

Prospective resident interviews are conducted daily at 7:00 p.m., offering a structured yet welcoming entry point for individuals ready to take the next step in their recovery. This process allows individuals to meet current residents, learn more about the house rules, and assess whether the Oxford House environment aligns with their recovery goals.

With a capacity to accommodate up to 10 residents, the facility provides an intimate, close-knit living arrangement where each individual can contribute to the household dynamic and form lasting connections with others on similar journeys. The small number of residents fosters deeper relationships and ensures everyone feels supported and involved in community-building.
