Supporting Residents in Building Confidence, Resilience, and a Sense of Purpose on Their Path to Sobriety
Founded in the 1970s in Silver Springs, Maryland, Oxford Houses has grown from a single, small recovery home into an expansive network with residences across the United States and worldwide. These homes provide a stable, substance-free setting for individuals to heal, rebuild, and work toward sustained sobriety, with a proven model of peer support and shared responsibility that empowers residents in their journey to recovery.
Each Oxford House operates as an independent, self-run household, placing control directly in the hands of residents, who collectively take responsibility for their living environment and their commitment to sobriety.
Inviting Families To Witness Positive Transformations
Family members are encouraged to reconnect with residents, witnessing firsthand the progress their loved ones are making in a stable, positive environment. This reconnection process is essential, as addiction often strains relationships, and rebuilding family bonds can play an important role in an individual’s successful recovery journey. Additionally, Oxford Houses serve as a trusted resource for medical professionals, therapists, and addiction counselors.
Promoting Self-Sufficiency by Fostering Social Interactions and Shaping Positive Habits
In each Oxford House, residents participate in group activities, share household responsibilities, and support one another through the ups and downs of recovery.
Prospective residents interested in joining Oxford House are welcome to attend daily in-person interviews at 7:00 p.m., which allows them to understand the community dynamics and commitment required. With space for up to eight residents, this home provides an intimate setting where each individual can feel valued and supported.
