Rebuilding Lives Free from the Grip of Addiction

Founded in the 1970s in Silver Springs, Maryland, Oxford Houses has grown from a single recovery home into a global network of supportive sober-living environments. These residences are dedicated to offering individuals a safe, stable space to rebuild their lives free from the grips of addiction. As a groundbreaking model in recovery housing, Oxford Houses prioritizes sobriety, independence, empowerment, and community support, all of which contribute to long-term healing.

Central to the Oxford House approach is its self-sustaining, democratically managed structure, which empowers residents to take ownership of their recovery journey. Each house operates as an independent, peer-led household, where residents collaboratively handle financial responsibilities, set house rules, and maintain daily operations. This self-governance model instills a sense of responsibility and accountability, allowing residents to develop life skills such as budgeting, conflict resolution, and cooperative decision-making.

Connecting Formal Treatment Programs to Independent Living

Beyond encouraging individual growth, Oxford Houses is also committed to supporting families, recognizing that addiction affects not just the individual but their entire support system. Families are encouraged to reconnect with their loved ones in an atmosphere of stability and trust, allowing relationships to heal and strengthen over time. Oxford Houses is also valuable for medical professionals, addiction counselors, and social workers, who often refer patients to these homes for continued support.

Cultivating a Community Grounded in Empathy and Respect

Life within an Oxford House centers on creating a close-knit community among residents who share the common goal of sobriety. Through group support meetings, social activities, and shared household responsibilities, residents form meaningful bonds that become a source of strength and encouragement.

Prospective residents are invited to attend in-person daily interviews at 7:00 p.m. to learn more about life within the Oxford House community and determine if it is the right fit for their recovery goals. This Oxford House can accommodate up to 10 residents and offers a supportive community atmosphere and a personal, family-like environment where everyone’s voice is heard and respected. The limited number of residents encourages close relationships and ensures that each individual receives the support and connection they need to succeed.
