St. Augustine Compassionate Village

Helping older adults maintain independence while feeling a deep sense of belonging within their community.

Creating a strong support network

Inspired by the Village Movement founded in Boston in 2002 and the Compassionate Movement launched in the UK in 2008, the St. Augustine Compassionate Village fosters an inclusive and supportive community for seniors aged 55 and older in the Oldest City. Recognizing the importance of social connections and accessible resources, the organization is committed to enhancing its members' health, well-being, and overall quality of life.

The St. Augustine Compassionate Village creates a strong support network, helping older adults maintain independence while feeling a deep sense of belonging within their community.

Providing Educational and Interactive Programs

The organization collaborates with key local partners, including the City of St. Augustine, the St. Johns County Council on Aging, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Helpful Village, and various other stakeholders. These partnerships combat the growing issue of senior isolation and promote purposeful living by fostering engagement, education, and wellness opportunities.

Educational workshops, social events, wellness programs, and volunteer initiatives form the core of the Village’s activities. Members can participate in group discussions, skill-building sessions, and community service projects that enhance their personal fulfillment and contribute to the greater good. These opportunities allow seniors to remain active and involved, reinforcing the idea that aging should be a dynamic and enriching phase of life.

Constantly Evolving to Meet Members' Changing Needs

A defining feature of the St. Augustine Compassionate Village is its self-governing model, which empowers members to have a voice in shaping the organization’s direction. Decisions regarding programs, policies, and initiatives are made collaboratively, ensuring that the Village continuously adapts to its members' evolving needs and interests.

This model fosters a sense of ownership and collective responsibility, reinforcing the belief that aging is a journey best navigated with community, compassion, and purpose.
